Cades Cove Great Smoky Mountains
Cades Cove is a large valley surrounded on all sides by mountains, in the western end of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Cades Cove Loop Road is definitely on the short list of must-visit places in the Smokies, and with good reason. A drive on the loop road can be frustrating and maddening at times, but the rewards of natural beauty that are found in this area far outweigh the minor traffic hassles. There are many restored historic buildings along the loop road - cabins and churches for the settlers that once lived in this area - which are fascinating and beautiful. During the early part of last century this area became fairly heavily populated, and the park service now maintains the fields and buildings as a monument to the people that once called this magnificent place home. The scenic views along the loop road are simply some of the best you will find, in any season. Cades Cove is truly a unique and wonderful place, and is definitely one of my favorite places to visit in the Smokies.
